Vintage cards
With older cards, a person assesses every card individually:
- All seven conditions from MT to PO are bought, including visibly played cards
- All editions and finishes, including 1st Edition and Reverse Holo
- A collector assesses every price personally
Condition with older cards
You estimate your card’s condition first, and we inspect it on arrival. If it matches the stated attributes, the agreed price stands. If it differs, we explain the reason and send you an adjusted price, which you can accept, negotiate, or decline. This happens more often with older cards than with current sets, for example through edge wear or light damage.
Each offer is valid for 48 hours from the moment it is sent, because card prices move daily. If it expires, we prepare a new one. That keeps your price current, even if you take some time to decide.
Rarity, edition, and language
Besides condition, edition and finish (such as 1st Edition, Reverse Holo, or Illustration Rare) and the card’s language feed into the assessment. Language affects the price, but not whether we buy a card. The same applies to Japanese vintage cards, except that these are bought by email to hello@cardbuyer.eu rather than through the online form.
There is no minimum number of cards: even a single rare, older card can be enough for an offer, as long as its value reaches the €50 threshold.
How the process works
You add your cards to a list by set, collector number, language, condition, and quantity. We check the current Cardmarket trend and the lowest current listings only when you submit your list, and then send you a personal offer with a separate price for each card.
Insurance for valuable cards
With valuable cards, the shipping route matters. After we agree, you receive a prepaid DHL label; when packaged correctly according to our instructions, your shipment to us is insured up to the full card value and a maximum of €25,000. If something is lost or damaged along the way, that is then our risk, not yours.
Two past purchases
Regardless of card age, this is what the process looked like in these two purchases:
- Florian · around 200 cards · €350: in person, paid immediately
- Kai · 46 cards · €360: through CardBuyer.eu, shipping label in under two hours, inspection and payment within two days
